Minor Home Modifications
Minor Home Modifications
Sometimes, an intellectual disability co-occurs with a physical disability. For such people, maneuvering through a home can be challenging. Fortunately, there are funds available for such individuals for modifications to the home to promote maximum freedom of movement and minimize dependence on others. Click here for a comprehensive list of Minor Home Modifications available (scroll down a little bit to “List of Billable Adaptive Aids”).
Minor home modifications include assessing the need for, arranging for, and providing modification and/or improvements to a person’s living quarters to allow for community living and ensure safety, security, and accessibility.
Getting approval for such funds can be complex and difficult as they must first be pre-authorized. There are significant documentary requirements that coincide with the coordination of professionals and construction contractors and managing the associated timeframes for everything to come together perfectly to obtain the pre-authorization. Not unlike building a house, turning minor home modifications from an idea into a reality requires a team of knowledgeable and experienced professionals who will stay on top of the many deadlines and communicate effectively with all parties involved.
We have successfully modified the homes of many individuals. Chair lifts on stairs, grab bars in showers, locks on cabinet doors, widened doorways, roll-in showers, modified heights of toilets, sinks, and bathroom counters, wheelchair ramps, and many other specialized adaptations are among the modifications we have successfully realized for some of the people we serve . We are happy to do the legwork to make these happen for your loved one.
